Matthew Alan Livelsberger, a 37-year-old U.S. Army servicemember from Colorado, has been identified as the individual who rented a Tesla Cybertruck that exploded outside the Trump International Hotel in Las Vegas on January 2, 2025.
The explosion resulted in one fatality—the occupant of the vehicle—and injured seven others.
The FBI conducted a search of a residence in Colorado Springs as part of the investigation into the incident.
Authorities have stated that there is no known connection between the Las Vegas explosion and a separate attack in New Orleans that occurred on the same day.
The investigation is ongoing, and officials have not yet disclosed a motive for the explosion.
In addition to his military service, public records indicate that a person named Matthew J. Livelsberger has been employed by Adams County, holding positions from 2020 to 2023, including Director of Adult Services & DUI and Office Phone Coordinator.
It is currently unclear if this is the same individual involved in the Las Vegas incident.
Furthermore, a person named Matthew Livelsberger has been listed as an inventor on patent applications related to projectile detection systems.
Again, it is not confirmed whether this is the same individual.
